How to edit videos with Codex and your own brand

EditorBrain · Updated

Codex can work with the files and tools in a video project. EditorBrain supplies editorial context: which brand to use, which references to consult and how to review the edit. The outcome also depends on your footage, environment and available rendering tools.

Prepare a folder and choose your brand

Place your clips in a working folder and specify which brand and project you want to edit. Keep originals separate from renders so you can revise the edit without losing source material.

Complete your EditorBrain preferences: captions, pacing, allowed media sources, sound intensity and involvement in decisions. A product video may need different rules from a personal story, even within the same account.

Install the instructions for Codex

Use the guided connection from your account. If you already have Node.js and use a terminal, this command prepares your folder for Codex:

npx editorbrain@latest setup --dir ./my-videos --agent codex
  1. Authorize your account in the browser if requested.
  2. Resolve project selection with the correct ID when setup asks for it.
  3. Confirm inside Codex that the connection identifies the expected workspace and the project belongs to the requested brand.
  4. Follow any pending diagnostic steps before editing.

Choose your starting point

Ask for help from scratch or copy a selection from the library. In the first case, Codex finds references based on your footage and goal. In the second, it receives a more specific direction and the resources you selected.

Favorites guide selection when they fit a scene. They do not force the same animation or sound into every video. A style should not replace your brand colors and typography.

Make corrections without starting over

Review the video in the artifact prepared by the agent. Give a timestamp and a desired result: “00:18, enlarge the screenshot so the button is readable”. This is more useful than asking for everything to look better.

A correction for this video should not become a rule for every brand. If you want to save a learning, review its scope before adding it to memory. Your next edit may need a different pace or visual language.

Diagnose your environment

If instructions or tools are missing, doctor can inspect your project setup. Read its results: detecting an installed program does not certify the quality of the exported video.

npx editorbrain@latest doctor --dir ./my-videos --agent codex
  1. Check that the agent can read the clips and write to the output folder.
  2. Review duration, speech cuts, readability, synchronization and sound in the actual export.
  3. Before rendering in another environment, confirm that the media and required tools are available there. Opening the chat does not transfer them automatically.

Common questions

Does EditorBrain include access to Codex?

No. EditorBrain provides the library, preferences and instructions. Agent access and external services are managed separately.

Can I choose animations on the website?

Yes. Copy the prompt for a resource available on your plan or combine several animations and add instructions. The agent should retrieve those exact resources and adapt them to your video.
